My name is Shannon, I am the Deputy Manager here at Heath Lodge. I have worked at the company for 10 years, during this time I have developed a deep passion for supporting children’s growth, learning, and wellbeing. Throughout my career, I have gained a wealth of knowledge and confidence that has given me the skills to create a nurturing, inclusive, and stimulating environment where every child feels valued and respected. In addition, I believe that supporting our team’s professional development and wellbeing is fundamental to creating an engaged, caring and resilient environment.
I hold several qualifications, including an NVQ Level 3 in Childcare, Specialist Safeguarding Training, Special Educational Needs, Paediatric first aid and Mental Health First Aid. These have equipped me with the tools to effectively support both my team and the children in my care.
I began my journey in childcare as a part-time morning and afternoon cover, and through dedication and ongoing professional development, I progressed to become Deputy Manager, Lead Practitioner in Little Discoverers, and the Designated Safeguarding Lead. Safeguarding and child protection are at the heart of my practice, and I am deeply committed to ensuring the wellbeing and welfare of every child.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with a wide age range—from babies taking their first steps or speaking their first words to preschoolers ready to take the next big step into school. I believe it is vital to celebrate each child’s individual achievements, as this recognition helps them build confidence and provides a strong foundation for their early education journey.
Outside of work, I enjoy travelling to warm, beautiful destinations and spending time with my family and friends—especially my four-year-old twin nieces, who are now embarking on their own adventures in reception. They certainly keep me on my toes and remind me daily of the joy and curiosity that make working with children so rewarding.
