Irish Community Services Centre
We always look forward to our weekly visits to the Irish Community Centre in Bexleyheath on a Tuesday. The children have the opportunity to take part in planned creative activities with the elderly which include gluing, sticking, painting, cutting and drawing to name a few. They then have a focus story around what they have created at the Centre that week. The warm atmosphere, friendly faces, and strong sense of community make it a place we truly enjoy. There’s always something meaningful happening, and every visit leaves us feeling connected and welcomed.
The children learn valuable social skills that support early communication and support the children in their developing confidence and self esteem whilst learning about the wider community.

Library
Our time at the library is something we treasure. From discovering new books to enjoying the quiet calm environment, the library offers a perfect space to learn, explore, and unwind.
It’s a highlight of our week and a wonderful resource for the whole community. The children take part in a weekly interactive story with librarians supporting speech and language skills and early communication.
The children also get to choose library books to bring back to the Nursery that supports a topic or theme to develop and support their learning.

Litter Picking
Litter picking has become one of the most rewarding parts of our routine. It’s a great opportunity to be outdoors, take pride in our surroundings, and make a positive difference—one small action at a time.
Helping keep our community clean feels great and brings people together.

Phonics Stars
During our weekly phonics session the children have fun and play games with a focus on developing their speaking and listening skills.
We build phonological awareness through our activities and this includes recognising environmental sounds, instrumental sounds, using body percussion and voice sounds plus exploring rhythm, rhyme, alliteration, oral blending and segmenting.
Each week we recall the sounds the letters make with actions and then play a listening game. We also end our sessions with some movement to support fine or gross motor skill development. This could be with sensory scarves, pom poms, mark making or with play doh.
The children are always enthusiastic and engaged. I love visiting Premier Lodge and working with them all.
